Lower back pain is a common complaint heard by our back doctor in Houston TX. What many people may not realize is that something as simple as their posture could be playing an important role in their back health. Poor posture can lead to additional pressure on your back, and prolonged pressure and stress can lead to chronic pain issues. If you’ve been suffering from lower back pain, spend a few days paying close attention to your posture. By correcting it, you may feel relief. Here are some tips to help you make sure you are treating your spine right:
Remember to stand with a straight back, tummy in, chest up and out, and your shoulders squared.
To get yourself into the right position, perform the wall test. Stand against the wall with the back of your head, shoulders, and butt touching the wall. There should be about two inches of space between your lower back and your neck and the wall. If there isn’t, adjust your position and try to maintain it throughout the day.
Check with our back doctor in Houston TX about exercises you can do at home that will help correct your posture and keep you in the proper position.
If getting into the proper posture position hurts, don’t do it. That may be a sign there is something wrong with your back.
